Gotta Start Somewhere...
It's hard to know where to start and what to start with. The niggling thought in the back of my mind is no one sees the first post but at the same time what if you see this post and I've not given you a reason to keep reading or to follow.
I was thinking of starting with a brief history but don't want to start with the past when the present is so much more exciting.

So who is Girl From Blue City?
The actual Girl From Blue City has been myself for nearly 8 years. My name is Rhian and i make jewellery full time for my nifty little business.
There is a theoretical Girl From Blue City who i design my jewellery for, she may be you, she may be your daughter, she may be your friend or your sister. She's probably a bit younger than me, a bit less shy, more of a natural blogger and definitely more photogenic!
The name is actually taken from a song title, it had always stuck with me, the four words Girl From Blue City, for me, tell a story which changes daily depending on my mood and what I'm doing.
Girl From Blue City's face has had about five versions but I'll do a post on that another time!

Why start a blog?
As previously mentioned i am not a natural blogger, twitterer or facebooker but running your own business without massive budget means having to do some marketing and advertising yourself. I'm getting better at the twittering and facebooking and I ran a diagnostic tool which rates your website and mine would have had a good rating but was let down by not having a blog so here i am.
I'm hoping having a blog will enable me to get some stuff off my chest that's not really appropriate for Twitter and Facebook, stuff that is more businessy, what goes on behind the scenes of a small business. I know there are lots of people out there giving it a go nowadays and why not? But there is a learning curve and I've been on it for 8 years next month.
So I'm about done for this first post, it's longer than i would like my posts but it's the first one so bite me.
If you have any questions about running a business please ask! I have loads i think people will find interesting and i hope if you are a fan of the jewellery you will also find a little background info interesting too.
